Payments are going awry again

Update 2 September: I may be having other unusual payment issues too all of a sudden. (Too early to tell.) I’m having trouble accessing PayPal, among other things.

UPDATE 29 August 2024: I just logged into my bank account to check, on my computer, and indeed, that scheduled VGZ payment had NOT gone out. (As you can read below, I decided to make a manual payment, but that usually takes VGZ ten days to two weeks to process, if not longer.)

It has happened before that a VGZ payment did not go out when it should have gone out. I also once found that the date on a scheduled payment – to a different party – had been changed. I had emailed about it, had entered it for the end of September and found it moved to the start of October, to be precise. This sort of thing tends to annoy the parties for which the payments are intended. It can even make you come across as unreliable. It can lead to cancellation of agreements and arrangements.

In the UK, when I was logged in at one of my banks and my computer froze so badly that I had to throw the power off and go through my multiple login routines to start up the computer and its operating system, I would sometimes still be logged in at the bank. This indicates that I was on someone else’s network (which I knew I often was and had been going on for years); the bank site I was on could even have been a mirror. I know for certain that I sometimes was on mirror sites with incorrect information. I know how this works, how someone can do this (httrack etc). I fairly recently also once briefly spotted some type of teamwork software in action, in Linux.

This was a message I received about me having open ports, the first time I managed to get myself off that other person’s network. I didn’t know yet back then that at that point, my locks had already been getting picked for at least 4 years. This would go on for a total of at least 13 years. As a migrant and as a woman of over 45, people felt that I didn’t have the right to protest against this. They felt that I didn’t have the right to live my life, didn’t have the right to agency.

I am not getting my bank’s emails today. Like before payments are going awry as a result. Payment attempts are supposed to be tried the next day again when that happens, don’t they? When the payment requests come in at the bank, but I don’t get to okay them, they get refused and if I am not receiving any communications about it, I won’t know.

There’s more.

These refused payments only show up in my app. Not when I log in from the computer.

In app
On computer. Not a sign of the refused payments.
According to my app this payment has been refused because I didn’t get to okay this specific payment. In some cases, I have to okay each specific payment and sometimes, I can enter a repeat direct debit; it depends on the payment processor. It’s best to block all direct debits, instead okay individual ones and also set limits (frequency and amount) because it helps protect your account. That’s what I do. Another protective measure is not to keep too much money in your account (and not have a large overdraft facility).

According to my computer, however, this VGZ bill was paid.

According to the VGZ site, this has been paid.

However, VGZ invoicing is anything but transparent and often not up to date, so I will now also make this payment manually, just in case.
