This video below – a documentary – starts with a so-called no-fault eviction (Section 21 Notice). It’s English. It does not exist in other countries and I’ve learned that it’s almost impossible to explain to Dutch people. For years, the Conservatives had been talking about abolishing no-fault evictions, starting with when Theresa May was PM, if I am not mistaken. Then Labour said that they would finally do it. They haven’t yet.
My friend Astrid (PhD from TU Delft) and her English partner (works in computers) were hit with no-fault evictions over and over again. After Astrid’s mother passed away in the Netherlands and the house was sold, Astrid was able to purchase a home of her own and finally has some peace and quiet.
The English job market remains very challenging for her, however. Back in 2010, she and her English partner were making just as much working 60 hours per week in total as a friend of her in the Netherlands did working 25 hours per week at a comparable job level.
Brighton and Hove is to the east of Portsmouth (which is on the south coast; both are within the commuter catchment for London). Weymouth, however, is quite a bit to the west of Portsmouth. Margate is on the east coast (but still south of London).
