Health disparities and disabilities: New developments in the US
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama-health-forum/fullarticle/2819894

I lean toward applauding any move that seeks to address ableism. Biases – with regard to any property, whether it is a physical difference, poverty, age, skin or hair color or anything else – do so much damage.
Partly at work is the focusing illusion:
- Someone is of a certain age, “hence” probably has dementia.
- Someone has a physical disability, “hence” is already in bad health and does not deserve the same level of care and consideration as others.
- Someone has a physical disability, “hence” is miserable all the time.
- Someone is of a certain age, “hence” is no longer interested in anything and needs to be warehoused, wither away and be enabled to pass away out of sight of the rest of society.
- Someone is black, “hence” is extra-ordinarily strong and does not need the same level of healthcare as whites.
- Someone does not talk, “hence” is of low intelligence.
- Someone is poor, “hence” is genetically flawed and/or mentally impaired.
And so on and so forth.
All other aspects of someone’s life and personality are casually dismissed, usually not even looked at.
Continue readingPlanning to try to force people to become aware that the planet is in peril resulting in 4- and 5-year prison sentences… Ouch. No more Zoom calls for Just Stop Oil, then.

Whether you agree with their approach or not, our future on the planet is very uncertain and these are the kinds of protests that I’ve heard about since my teenage years.
Back then, it was mostly missiles (and apartheid) that people in my native country were protesting against, I remember, and back then… because of the OPEC Oil Crisis, we actually had Sundays with complete DRIVING BANS! Emergency services excepted.
Rollerskating and cycling in the streets was so much fun on those days.

Isn’t it crazy that we insist on ruining our own future on the planet for the sake of making money?
No, I am not planning any protests, no worries. But I often shake my head at the foolhardy stupidity of humankind and am also astonished to have to admit that I didn’t used to see either that the way in which we are living and behaving in the west is pretty crazy.
It’s not just about oil. It’s just about everything.

Strides for autism in the UK
| In my inbox today |
| “Yesterday, the new Government announced their plans for the year in the King’s Speech. We are pleased to hear they plan to finally go ahead with reforms to the Mental Health Act. This inclusion is an opportunity to change the law so autism is no longer defined as a ‘mental disorder’ and autistic people will not be detained in mental health hospitals just for being autistic. Last year, over 18,000 of you signed an open letter to Rishi Sunak saying its #TimeToAct on the Mental Health Bill but despite this huge demand for action, it was shelved. We’ve been campaigning on this for years and we want to take the time to celebrate this success with everyone who has campaigned to end the human rights scandal of autistic people being stuck in mental health hospitals. We will work with this parliament to strengthen the Mental Health Bill before it is passed into law to make sure we have better mental health and social services in the community to prevent autistic people from reaching crisis point in the first place. The Government also announced plans for a new Education Bill which will include a focus on teacher recruitment. Only 26% of autistic pupils say they feel happy at school, so it is vital that this comes with proper training on autism for both school and council staff so they can fully meet the needs of autistic children being let down by insufficient support.” |

How to transfer files between iPhones, Androids and Windows computers with ease
Install Pushbullet on your Androids and iPhones and install the Pushbullet extension in your browser. It works well in Chrome and I assume that it works equally well in other browsers.
I’ve used it in the past to receive text messages on my computer, but its greatest advantage may be easy file transfer.
Architecture that makes sense
Time is of the essence
Today, someone called me rather late in the day. I had to dig up my phone as it was plugged into my computer. Awkward. Then I had to unplug it because I wanted to talk to the person who called. Also awkward.
This was someone who wanted to meet. But the way she formulated the suggested time was rather odd. I didn’t realize it at the time, but it made me want to choose a different time. Because the time she mentioned confused me.
Funny how such things influence us.
She formulated the suggested time in a way that took up more words than necessary. It made me think “eh, what time?”.
Now I wonder if it may be something new or something regional. Time to Google it.
Did that. Yes, apparently, it’s regional.
Only now I also realize that the way she phrased the time really confused me. I thought that the new time she mentioned was only 20 minutes later. It’s not at all only 20 minutes later.
I somehow connected it to an odd English way of phrasing certain times that some people use. Half 10, that’s 10:30, for example. Half 10 is 9:30 in Dutch.

“Common law” is a legal term
I just spotted an article in the Dutch news about groups of people who want to overthrow the government or whatever – called “soevereinen”. In the article, “common law” is described as jargon exclusive to these Dutch circles.
That’s incorrect.
This is a potentially dangerous mistake by this journalist, in my view.

You can for example be someone’s common law wife and that has nothing to do with wishing to overthrow the government.

I notice that I have a tendency to mix up AIVD and IND. Probably a good thing.

“Common Law Nederland Earth”? Really? These particular Dutchies sound like nutcases to me. Unfortunately, apparently they’re also dangerous nutcases. They must be folks quite like the crazy lunatics who still continue to pester me, for whatever reason. These dangerous Dutchies use code words, such as “bananas” for “weapons”. The lunatics who are after me do that too.

Temporary small antidote for all the evil in the world
She’s not making it up
Did you know this?
When I was still stuck in Portsmouth and fed up with my locks getting picked all the time, one day (I think this was in 2022), I told a post office worker first and Gerald Vernon-Jackson next that I was going to start killing people if this didn’t stop. I didn’t mean that, obviously, but I was so desperate for someone to LISTEN to me and step up for me and I hoped that this would finally get people’s attention.
IT DID NOT.
When I volunteered in the Covid vaccination effort, I had no electricity and no hot water. The weather was cold.
When I worked in the COLD tent outside, where people had to wait after their jabs before they could leave, in case they had any instant adverse effects that needed medical intervention, I would go home after my shifts to a flat that was warm relative to the tent. That was nice.
(That requirement for people to have to wait before they could leave was dropped later.)
When I worked indoors, where it was light and warm, I would go back to a flat that would be freezing cold, by comparison. It was pretty miserable.
I barely had any food, too.
The people at the vaccination center had no idea.
When it was busy, volunteering there was great. Finally, after so many years of climbing the walls, I had something to do that kept me busy. Locals were amazed to discover that I was actually capable of telling people which door to go to. They didn’t think that I had that in me.
(They’d been telling each other that I was some kind of “retard” for so long, by then. Someone apparently started that rumor before I moved to Portsmouth and everyone seems to have believed it. After all, nobody knew me.)
As soon as there were more volunteers than patients, when the foreign volunteers had left (gone back to university, for example), bickering and boredom started kicking in. The volunteers were just standing around doing nothing, most of the time. Not my kind of thing.
Besides, I clearly was no longer needed.
There was a big rush to get the booster shots before the holidays, but that was over in January. Most people who stopped by then were asking for flu shots, not Covid jabs.

Today, in Amsterdam: Are the effects of the drive to increase consumerism and industrial production, hence also traffic and pollution, regulating the “harmful life forms” behind it?

Ma quale idea!
We have a theme going?
He’s just passed away, by the way, which is why I am playing this and because I don’t seem to have anything better to do at the moment. It’s not as if I can put my things in my car and drive off so that I can leave all the crazy people in the entire world and the messes they cause behind me. I so wish I could. I so wish I could have done that 18-20 months ago or at the end of 2019.
I used to play themes, on blip, a century ago.
You see, someone who has an idea to which someone else might reply “ma quale idea!” may have lost his way…
Europe has also lost its way in many ways relative to the UK, I now repeatedly find myself thinking, to my astonishment. I had not realized that things had changed this much over here, while I was away, and this badly. By contrast, the UK is now even turning a corner. (The Netherlands seems to be really godawful these days. Yikes. Crazy weirdos on my tail who pester me was the last thing I needed on top of that. I never liked the Netherlands much but I should have been able to make a living here for a while and then take off again. You can’t do that with a bunch of crazy weirdos on your tail. Just like in Portsmouth, so far, he’s or they’ve managed to sabotage just about everything again. Goddamn hackers. So much hate behind it all, so so so much hate.)
I used to feel home wherever I was, if I had to (as some places are still better than others), because home was inside me. Portsmouth took that away from me. What happened in Portsmouth filled me with fear too often and eroded my sense of security very badly. When the crap followed me out of Portsmouth and then started smashing everything to pieces in my next country too… goddammit. What is wrong with people who are THAT DESTRUCTIVE? What on earth is wrong with them? And is it fixable or not?
I need to be free, free from pestering, see only fresh faces and be only a fresh face for others for a very long time to establish a new baseline and a new life. I couldn’t believe that after five escape attempts I would have to flee again. I have to. I have no choice. . .
I want my life back.
He does not want to be IN my life. He does not want company. He does not feel lonely. He just wants to control every aspect of it and enjoy my powerlessness. And he wants to get angry with me and punish me when he feels like it and yell “nah nah nah nah nah”, hacker-style and “whore” and what not, manipulator-style, like the kids he used to send after me in Portsmouth when he no longer often could get any adults to pester me.
One time when I had kicked him out of my computer again, a kid walked up to me, crying, said that his mother had kicked him out of the house. A few hours later I ran into the kid again and it had all been just one big show. That sort of thing happened often too. Totally crazy. But the adults were worse. There was SO MUCH HATE behind it. Extremely unpleasant to be on the receiving end.
(The kids didn’t know any better, but the adults were after only one thing. My utter misery, and prolonging it as much as possible.)
He miss road (by a human rights activist)
About people who have lost their way and pester, abuse and sabotage others to death, perhaps?
I had the Fela Kuti documentary on DVD. Just one of the handful of things I had dared treat myself to again. I found it in the British Heart Foundation charity shop. I’ve now lost just about everything (and everyone, sort of) that I had four or five times. I’ve lost count. I’m done.

So, things are looking up in the UK and in Iran

And yes, Naomi, I agree, but in some places, that’s much worse than in the UK.

The stars have said our love’s untrue
And just because we shared a lie
There is no reason for a soul to die
Oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh, oh
I’ve got a soul, and you broke my heart
Find a new scene, and let us depart
Don’t hang around and let yourself
Be caught in this
You’ll find a better people there
A friendly love, the kind who care
And not the sort like me you’ve found
We’re mean and hard, and we push around
Oh, oh, wee-ooh
Ooh-wee
I’ve got a soul, and you broke my heart
Find a new scene and let us depart
Don’t hang around and let yourself
Be caught
Doo-doot-n-doo-n-dee-doo
Doot-dee, doo, doot, doo
I’ve got a soul, and you broke my heart
Find a new scene and let us depart
Oh, no
Oh-oh-oh, no
Oh, no
This, too, is real, not imagined
Ha.
Simyo gave me 3 GB extra and then started cutting me off. I was totally offline on the tablet this afternoon. When I switched to a different SIM card I got Irish ads again. But the IP address is not in Ireland.
17:43 Hi-jacked my connection again.
Nope. Was Simyo issue. Phew!
*dances*
(Except, it was not Simyo’s fault at all, was it, because a rather similar thing happened on my computer with a different provider, after all.)
